TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

To better illustrate my thoughts on education, I point to my lengthy career as a radiologic technologist. In the field of medical imaging – I constantly had to make adjustments with patients to ensure that I was able to obtain diagnostic images for radiologists to read. Each patient had different sets of needs and limitations that can make the job of a radiologic technologist challenging; Each patient in real life needed to be individualized.

This is similar to how I think education should be approached; personalizing learning. The strategy of incorporating activities and assignments that fit the needs of the different learning types, will do much to keep students engaged. This could be activities such as mindmapping, in class debates, student made videos, role play - these ideas are just a beginning to the endless possibilities I could use to entice students to actively participate and learn.

As an educator, I need to ensure that I am connecting my students. This can be through forming bonds as a mentor and ensuring the students growth along their career path in medical imaging. Being patient with students and treating them with respect, will establish a climate that will encourage the student to thrive.
By doing these things, I hope I am able to inspire my students to become the best medical imaging professionals that they can be.
